Use The Box Blade In Order To Level Your Dirt
If you have a yard that has been left un-level due to construction activities or need to build a road, one of the best tools to choose is a box blade, an implement is designed for use with a tractor and is an excellent tool for contouring and smoothing land.
While most box blades are designed to attach to a tractor using a three point hitch, you will also find that there are smaller versions that are designed for use with a lawn tractor or an ATV. The three point hitch makes use of the blade much easier, as the operator is able to adjust the height of the blade as well as the tilt of the blade using the hydraulic system of the tractor. The hitch and implement can be adjusted using the hydraulic leavers and the operator never has to leave his seat on the tractor. In addition, the adjustments can be made while the blade is in motion.
Most of these blades have a cutting surface on both the front and the rear of the blade. They are designed for two way use. Additionally, there are usually three or more ripper shanks found in front of the blade. These shanks can be retracted if not needed, but are also great for very hard ground. More expensive models of the box blade have a release that allows the blade to float when the tractor is backing up. This works well in the final passes of leveling ground.
Choosing the correct box blade depends on the size of the area where you are working. If the area is very small, you may find that a forty-two inch model with wheels and designed for use with a lawn tractor or ATV is all that is needed and easy to work with. If you have a very large area, you will want a six to seven foot blade and a large tractor that has enough power to operate the blade. It takes a lot of force to pull a blade through seven feet of ground.
Sometimes the commercial models of this tool come with a laser guidance system. This system will automatically adjust the blade for to level the ground.
Before attempting to level any dirt, all logs and large rocks should be removed from the area. Lock the blade in place and use it in reverse to bulldoze any large dirt piles down so that the tractor does not have to drive over them. It is important that the tractor be kept level in order to avoid a tipping hazard.
You are now ready to lower the shanks and use them to break up any hard ground as well as roughly level the area. This is especially helpful with areas that are higher than the rest of the ground. Once the ground is broken up, you will be able to raise the shanks and lower the blade for moving dirt as necessary.
The last pass you make will be with the blade in the floating position and done in reverse. This gives the final grade to the new lawn.
Are you searching into smoothing and contouring your land? If so, then the box blade and the box scraper is the best route to take. This equipment can easily be hooked to the back of your tractor.
