In order to have a beautiful, healthy and clean koi pond, regular maintenance is typically required. There are many fungi and insects that grow in an environment such as a pond, their waste is known to contaminate the water and possibly hurt or kill the fish. In a healthy, clean pond, the balance between the nutrients and orgasms is very delicate. Many foreign objects can throw the balance out of whack. Making a pond plan has great advantages. Putting your design down on paper allows you to organize your pond building ideas, anticipate problems, and think of ways to improve your pond. Of course, the larger and more ambitious your pond ideas are, the more time you’ll spend elbow-deep in measuring tape and paper. You could skip this step, as some lazy pond builders do, but remember that the effort pays off.

A pond’s location can dramatically change its effect; remember this when defining the purpose of your pond. For example, a pond in the backyard works best if you want to keep it private. You could site it in the midst of your garden or in a corner of your yard as a private retreat. However, if you’re building a pond to impress visitors you’ll want to site it in the front yard. A formal pond with an impressive fountain and statuary is sure to wow anyone who comes to pay you a visit.
